Compensation Calculator

ChiroUp’s advanced Compensation Calculator helps you accurately estimate provider compensation and gain deeper insights into clinic revenue. This report pulls data from posted payments and offers flexibility to exclude items like non-billable services, cash patients, and more.

  • Total Collected: the sum of all payment amounts applied to purchases, excluding any overpayment amounts
    • An overpayment is when a patient has paid more than their invoiced responsibility
  • Total Compensated: the portion of the payment that is considered compensated. First, tax amounts are deducted from the payment, then the compensation percentage is applied to the remaining amount. Tax and overpayments are not compensated.
  • Excluded Amounts: the difference between Total Collected and Total Compensated; this represents the portion of collected payments not counted as compensated.

To generate output for your Compensation Calculator, first select your desired filters. Here is a overview of the available filters:

  • Date Range: filter by the date of payment posting
  • Clinicians: filter by the clinicians whose compensation/revenue information you'd like to view
  • Locations: filter by clinic location (required field)
  • Case types to exclude: filter out Case Types that you do not want to include in your output
  • Product types: filter by which product you'd like to be included - treatments (appointments), supplements & supplies, balance transfers, and/or package purchases
  • Item type: filter by either billable or non-billable service codes
  • Payor types to exclude: filter to exclude either nonbillable payors, internally billed payors (both settings indicated in the Payors database), or purchases with no payor attached

Then, review your compensation rate settings.

Click to open - Compensation Rate settings

Open your compensation settings by clicking the Settings button.

In your settings, you can designate at which percentage specific item-type should be compensated. By default, all items will be designated to be compensated at 100%.

ChiroUp's Compensation calculator is designed to replace the former Provider Compensation report. All of your previously designated Provider Compensation settings will have translated to your Compensation Calculator settings.

Additionally, you can set specific rates for different treatment types and/or supplements and supplies. To do so, click the respective tab to set your custom rates per treatment type or supplement/supply.

After you've selected your filters (make sure you select the location and clinician - as those are required fields to generate the report), the report will return displaying all relevant posted payments given your filters.

To view the compensation breakdown of each payment, hover over the value in the Total Compensation column.

The green B icon next to a service code indicates that code is billable.

💡 Pro tips

To view information about the Excluded Amounts, hover over the excluded amount total.

Overpayments are denoted with a red exclamation. Hover over the Compensated amount to find out more about any overpayment. When there is an overpayment, be sure to navigate to that purchase to review patient payment and charges, making edits as necessary to balance out the purchase.
