Finalizing Patient Responsibility

When posting an ERA, ChiroUp will automatically finalize the Patient Responsibility (PR) and update the corresponding purchase accordingly. This means that once the ERA is posted, the patient's responsibility on the purchase will reflect the actual PR indicated on the ERA. There’s no need to manually allocate additional balances or update estimated responsibility—ChiroUp’s Finalizing feature takes care of it for you!

Here is how finalizing ERAs work:

When you post an ERA, you'll see the column for the adjustment group Patient Responsibility (PR). This is where the ERA notates what the patient is responsible for.

The Finalize column on this screen tells ChiroUp to use this amount to update the patient’s balance on the purchase. In this case, regardless of the original estimated patient responsibility, the purchase will update to reflect a $15 patient responsibility when the ERA is posted.

If you do not want the purchase to automatically update with the patient’s responsibility listed on the ERA, be sure to uncheck the 'Finalize' checkmark.

Here is how to modify the Finalized balance, if needed:

Open the related claim (you can do so from the Billing Module or from the Invoices tab on the Purchase).

Finalized items are indicated by a green check mark— this is what the patient’s responsibility is based on. To un-finalize, simply click the green check mark. This will revert the patient’s balance to the estimated amount, which is calculated using their entered benefits and allowed amounts.
